The Self-Soothing Mama

Found this gem in the comments of a Pioneer Woman guest post.  The comment below comes from Marcy.  I’m wondering what you do to care for your self when you feel depleted.  My “go to” is probably to just turn off the alarm clock.  A few years ago, I realized that if I was in that overwhelmed place and I [...]

Review: Creativity Express

Creativity Express is a computer program that teaches art by combing art elements, animated characters, narration and exposure to art, artists and even scientists.
We received Creativity Express at the start of the summer.  I planned to casually use it through the summer months.  Then, my kids got a hold of it.  That was the end of my casual plan.  The [...]

Science and mathematics become ever more complicated every day.  New advances today, become old news tomorrow. Today, our elementary school children are expected to understand many concepts that many of the world’s most famous scientists never even considered.  Ancient scientists and mathematicians started with a blank slate and through time, with curiosity and determination, they have filled in many holes [...]

A great opportunity for Colorado Homeschoolers to make College plans.
Check out this College Fair at Front Range Community College. Sounds like a great chance for all of Colorado’s  high school and junior high homeschoolers to get a jump on college planning.  There will be talks on financial aid, writing your essay and my favorite, concurrent enrollment.

Crawdaddy Toys Game Review: Hit or Miss

I’ve carried the game Hit or Miss for about a year now but until recently I’d never played it. I finally got the chance while hosting the most recent Game Night at the Lafayette Library. I had asked a mother-daughter-&-son group to test out Hit or Miss, and 10 minutes into their game they were enthusiastically endorsing it. Curious about [...]

Valedictorian Speech Questioning her Efforts and Results

Harsh words from a valedictorian about compulsory education. A good reminder for homeschoolers to keep our eye on our child-as-a-whole, not on what subjects our child should master. Education as a journey…An Adventure. Here’s to the adventure.

The Colorado Ballet opens its final dress rehearsals up to school groups for a lovely reduced rate. We LOVE these performances. Because they are final dress rehearsals, they do reserve the right to stop the show and make corrections but we’ve never seen anything less than perfection!

Education vs. Schooling

By Tammy Drennen
Washington, D.C. has awful public schools, as everyone knows by now. They’ve tried endless fixes, all to little avail.
Among recent experiments has been a new chancellor, Michelle Rhee, who has a reputation for shaking things up. I hope she’s able to make a bad situation more tolerable for the many children who languish and suffer in our capital’s [...]
