Colorado Homeschoolers love nothing more than a good book list! Here’s one to add to your ‘bookmarks’. The School Library Journal’s Fuse 8 blog recently conducted a survey of childrens’ favorite chapter books.
The blogging worlds is all abuzz about this booklist! Folks are grading themselves (how many books have you read? (63 for me. 54 for my kidlet). Encouraging folks to add more diversity to their kids list. And debating the grading rubric which includes an “adults must have also voted for the book” clause. A Magical Childhood is redoing the poll with only children allowed to vote for their favorite chapter books.
Check out the Fuse 8 list. It’s a good one!

Thanks for the link, Elizabeth! What a fun job you must have. I think I’m going to become a librarian when I grow up! : ) I really enjoyed your Newberry hopeful list and look forward to reading some of those…Haven’t read a single one yet. Shameful!
What a great list! I’ve read 40 of them to the girls, and I noticed there were several in this list that I plan to read to them when they’re older.
I absolutely love book lists like this. There are so many fantastic chapter books for small people… Here’s what I would add to that list:
Gwinna by Barbara Berger
Summer of the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls
Happy Times in Noisy Village by Astrid Lindgren
Little House in the Highlands by Melissa Wiley
The Enchanted Castle by E. Nesbit
Understood Betsy by Dorothy Fisher
Nice list, SarahKate! We’re reading Where the Red Fern Grows right now and I’ve heard Summer of the Monkeys is wonderful too. I was planning on getting all serious with school this year, but maybe we’ll just skip it and read good books. : )
